And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

-Revelations

The consort of the Divine Feminine is the Serpent. As such, She is the Serpent. The mighty depiction of this creature is the Dragon.

Her throne is the Manifest. This is one side of the Coin that is center and all. She is the fire-breathing/world-emitting beast. She spews the world in viral swirls.

In the christian mythos, The Virgin Mary, as the apocalyptic woman, is 'The Great Red Dragon', or Woman demonized as Satan. One finds numerous extant examples of archetypal characters combating their various other aspects or incarnations. And isn't this appropriate as the great manifold coitus-battle swarm we call life is ultimately one thing acting out a dual dance.
As Eve in Eden, she banishes her dream-like naivete through the wisdom of the snake. She is initiated into the heavy world.

Lilith
The apparent infrastructure of our realm, or 'Space', is defined by spatial axes: height, width, length. Abstracted this can be represented two dimensionally as a square/diamond or hexagram, and three dimensionally as a cube or box. As axes these are sometimes depicted as intersecting dragons, and thus termed the "Dragon Axis". As the dragon axis represents a center in this way, we can observe the 'Kundalini' model as a working analog. Naturally, the Kundalini is thought of as a serpent(s) coiled around the length of the spine.

The Caduceus is one symbol for this vertical core-axis. The dual-nature intertwined serpents illustrate the one-acting-as-many motif. These serpents then neutralize each other, they are the product of the mirror element of nature.

The Aegis shield, in Greek mythology, initially wielded by our Woman as Athena (or sometimes Zeus) is employed to defeat her serpent-aspect self as Gorgon Medusa (some even claim "Medusa" was the original wielder of the Aegis). The power of the Gorgon was to petrify any creature who looked into her eyes. The Aegis shield possesses the particular quality of being so highly polished so as to function also as a mirror. Perseus, the hero of this particular tale, receives the Aegis shield and cleverly uses it to 'reflect' the Gorgon's curse on to Medusa herself. Victorious, our hero Perseus flies away on his winged steed to repeat an essentially identical feat. Andromeda, our damsel in distress, has been chained to a rock, awaiting assimilation by a serpentine sea-monster/dragon. Perseus arrives in time and slays the beast.

As we have seen, there is a curious trend of the male hero rescuing a woman from her "terrible" (demonized) aspect. This is reminiscent of so many stories of the (white) knight rescuing the maiden from the (usually red) dragon...
Apparently, the "Aegis" was not originally a shield, but a bag or sheath for a shield, or sometimes even described as a mantle or cape. This garment was made of bovid hide (goatskin). The Aegis as sheath/mantle possesses, in terms of resonance, a mirror or reflective quality. It also resonates the bag/sack/box.
Continuing, let us note that an etymological analysis of the word 'dragon' reveals a reference to "seeing clearly" or "to see clearly". Some offer the image of "shiny scales" as an explanation of this. Relating to the aforementioned 'mirror' illusion aspect of our reality, this would seem to infer a kind of counteraction or correction. We are no longer in a maze of mirrors, we no longer see double. We are not dizzied and petrified (horrified) by the of act looking into Her eyes, into the infinite fractal rabbit-hole. We are not blinded by "Mother Unveiled", Nudas Veritas. No longer fearing being devoured, we embrace our birth and banish the "Vagina Dentata". As in the caduceus, the serpent reveals the dual as illusion.

The word 'apocalypse' means revealing or unveiling.

And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.
And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?
And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;
Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

-Revelations
In reading The Book of Revelations we can observe that the "woman clothed with the sun" and "the great red dragon" are introduced in practically the same sentence. Further reading introduces the (white) sheep, the creature wielding the power to open the book (cuboid) and thus combat the (red) dragon. And the sheep here is, of course, Christ, the (male) hero, or "everyman".
The sheep is the Aegis.
Note that Christ on the cross also incarnates as snake.
The protagonist, fearing re-assimilation, demonizes Woman (his manifest reality), and then attempting to destroy her, finds himself in a maelstrom of shattered glass.

We aim the mirror-Aegis at the Dragon-Woman and we see her as stone.
Our mirror-shield has revealed demonized woman, queen of a heavy, dreadful, stone-like reality, as an illusion, a distorted reflection. We become aware of the ultimate non-reality of reality. This image of the terrible and ferocious woman-as-manifest-reality has been defeated, redeeming the pure and beautiful maiden.
Returning to the caduceus, a symbol of, among many things, the Kundalini or subtle body, we recognize the serpents as the nadis 'ida' and 'pingala'. Ida, the left or "sinister", colored red, the feminine. Pingala, the "right" or dexter, colored white, the masculine. Let us synthesize the two (that are already one), shatter the mirror, and evoke the Aegis Dragon to help us, finally, see clearly.
Initiate the Revelations.

Many excellent and inspiring insights on the dragon as galactic center, and other great dragon observations, can be found in Jake's work at 'The Blob'.

Brilliant Chris!
The synchronicities in the TV show Dexter lead me to investigate the Hand Print, and you mention White and Red Hands, in relation to Dexter, all in the same paragraph!!! Not sure what to make of that sync!
Love your interpretation of the Red Dragon....certainly rings true for me. I see both the Kundalini Fire Serpent and the Red Dragon deeply entwined with one another, and deeply entwined with our spiral DNA. Many are naturally scared of the Dragon, just like many are naturally scared of their own power lying dormant inside of them. When we overcome these fears I think the Red Dragon in each of us begins to 'Awaken'.
This post made me think of the movie Apocalypto (Apocalypse/Revealing/Dragon) where Jaguar Paw climbs the Pyramid/Jacobs Ladder, is about to be sacrificed to the Red Dragon Quetzalcoatl, and the Eclipse/Black Sun saves him. Funnily enough the Mayans claimed Quetzalcoatl would return in 2012. I believe that this refers to the Red Dragon (Christ Consciousness) within each of us.
Great stuff Chris....I'm glad we've hooked up, and look forward to more.

Thank you for participating, R Arrowsmith.
I see our current consensus leaning towards the dexter, or masculine essence. Anyone will tell you we live and have lived in a "Patriarchal" culture for some time now. This then plays a part in this demonizing of the feminine. It is during this period you see, repeatedly, this motif of the White Knight slaying the dragon or the feminine power; the patriarchal succeeding the earlier mother worship societies. I think as individuals and as a collective we are striving for balance and synthesis of our dual-nature.
Perhaps?
Hey Chris.
In my work you can see that the majority of syncs surround male actors, and your Dexter/Right Hand/Masculine comment is spot on, but I think I naturally fit this path because I'm a bloke. It got the ball rolling for me.
However, by looking into actors careers I've managed to get in touch with the Egyptian Mother Goddess Isis/Sothis/Sirius, and it's helped me 'open my heart' to the feminine, so to speak.
I feel like a Tinman/Scarecrow/Lion who followed the Yellow Brick Road (via synchronicity), reached the Emerald City and got in touch with my 'inner-wizard', found my Heart, my Brain/Mind, and found the Courage to then talk about it.
I could never have made the journey if Dorothy/Isis the Dog-lover wasn't by my side throughout. I couldn't have connected to OZ/PAN/Universe without gaining access to my Ruby Slippers (3rd Eye). The Dragon/Goddess/Kundalini helped open that Doorway. She helped me (Yin) connect to the Divine Feminine (Yang). Two became One, and I'm now wondering what happens next. Hope that makes sense!
Thanks for all of this.

(I'm just happy to have that version of my name come up in "Lost" and "The Day The Earth Stood Still" recently. Haven't really ever felt warm to it until now, playing with how it feels..)
You're welcome, Iakobos.
wonderful, it resonates and enlightens personal experience with me having talked about being a mirror. A longer story. I was also reading John's a while ago but your take on it helps me understand better.
Thank you, R.T.
Greetings from Elphame once again, Christos-bearer. The myth of the Gorgon Medusa wuzz, all told, my all-time favourite as a boy. It wuzzint 'til decades later that archaeologist Cornelia Steketee Hulst's title, "Perseus & the Gorgon" from 1946 (written when she wuzz already an octogenarian) came to my attention. I had told Iakobos about it in his then current Scarlet Dragon article, too.
Even the day that you had posted THIS article, itself resplendent with its own Gorgonian imagery, is/was highly significant to me personally.
You see, Chris, my husband & I were celebrating our first anniversary of merely Gno-Ing of each other's eXistenZ. We pilgrimaged to see the great 42 foot tall Athena Parthenos of the Nashville Parthenon.
She's quite the awe-inspiring sight to behold. Yes, Her aegis bears Medusa's severed head, but then, too, does Her shield, the great serpent Erichthonios uncoiling Himself from within the gray-eyed goddess' shield. She's also wearing eleven serpents Herself, eleven being the number of the Initiate.
I wear the fang of a crocodile as an homage to the merging of the Divine Feminine with that of the serpentine. Thank you, Magus Frost, for helping to enlighten the spiral along the cosmic dance in the edenic paradise even better.
Planting & nurturing,
Anadæ Effro ( :-)}
PS ~ Synchromystically enough, the captcha for this is "chesto". Later, bro.
And thank you, Effro, for your continued participation.

"I wear the fang of a crocodile as an homage to the merging of the Divine Feminine with that of the serpentine"
I started my most recent post on the divine popstar feminine with a picture involving twin crocs!

Note: Medusa was one of three sacred sisters -another theme i address heavily in that post. Medusa was the most beautiful of the the three Gorgons, and was raped by Apollo because of it. The rape -if memory serves- occured in Athena's temple, and Athena transformed the beautiful Medusa into her more well-known terrifying state as punishment. Merginf the divine fem with the serpent once again...
Great, Toure. I am not familiar with your blog yet but I will swing by right now.
Thanks!
Aloha Chris~ let's talk story. Blessed Be!
